_ By chance I was at the
Quad of UC Davis on the Friday of November 18 of 2011 when seated peaceful
student demonstrators were pepper sprayed by the Campus Police. I spent the next week or so spending free
time hanging out around the encampment with my friends who were occupying while
I took pictures. When the week was over
I had an interesting series of photos showing an overall timeline of the movement
through photos beginning with the dramatic events of Friday through the Saturday
of the “Walk of Shame” and culminating with the general assemblies held to
decide future actions of the movement.
When the week was over I had an interesting series of photos showing an overall timeline of the movement through photos. First there I have shots of the riot police on the quad disturbing the calm of the peaceful protest. Next I have a series of the injured students remaining peaceful after the police left. From the next day I have photos of the “walk of shame” and some interesting shots of Katehi over the next week and some shots from the mass assembly on the following Monday. I was thinking of showing timeline that has action and response in that the subject in a given shot is showing reaction from the subject in the previous shot whilst influencing the subject of the subsequent shot. In this way for example an image of a protester blocking the sidewalk would be followed by an image of Lieutenant Pike brandishing pepper spray at the camera which would then be followed by the look of shock in bystanders as the police act.
